What Is cPanel?
An introduction to the cPanel control panel — core features and commonly used tools for web hosting management.
cPanel is the most widely used web management panel for shared hosting accounts. It provides a graphical interface to manage websites, email, databases, DNS, and files without command-line access.
Step by step: what can you do in cPanel?
- File management: Upload, edit, and organize site files via File Manager or FTP.
- Email accounts: Create
@yourdomain.comaddresses and configure webmail. - Databases: Create MySQL/MariaDB databases and manage users for CMS applications.
- Domain management: Add addon domains, subdomains, and redirects.
- SSL: Install and manage Let’s Encrypt or purchased SSL certificates.
- Backups: Download backups or restore files and databases (depending on plan).
cPanel vs WHM
| Panel | User | Function |
|---|---|---|
| WHM | Reseller / server admin | Create packages, manage accounts |
| cPanel | End customer | Manage site, email, and files |
Reseller hosting customers use WHM to create packages; their clients use cPanel for day-to-day site management.
